So now that you have decided to start a blog you can realize there are so many things that you can work on. The 1st thing that you should do is design your blog. I suggest using Genesis Framework, if you use WordPress. Be sure to make things easy to find & also be sure to pick the right colors. You never want to have dark on dark or light on light or anything really bright as all those can all make it hard to read your info & can keep people away. Be sure that when you post links that you don’t just copy & paste the link into your post, but rather you “hide” the long unattractive mess behind a word that describes the link. Just use your “link” button to make that happen.
Also once you decide to put buttons for anything on your page be sure to remove them once they are no longer active. By leaving buttons up in January that for example were for Black Friday shows to your readers that you don’t pay too much attention to your own site & at least for me personally if I see an ad that is long expired I”m more likely to ignore all the others. Also if people aren’t clicking on the ads don’t keep them there cluttering your site. Oh and be sure that when you add widgets to any space that it isn’t bigger than the space provided. Again at least to me that just looks tacky & inspires me to ignore more instead of to click on it.
Once you have your design set up so it’s easy to read & navigate then you will want to start bringing in more fans. If you have a fb page be sure to post your blog posts to facebook. Also don’t be afraid to join in on giveaways/sweepstakes hosted by other pages. There are some that can have a higher buy in fee, but there are also ones that can be very inexpensive to join in & is a great way to bring in new fans. Yes you will get people that like your page just for the chance to win something and never look at it again, but you will also get people that become lifelong fans that interact with you frequently.
Don’t expect to make tons of money, especially right off the bat, but you can earn some by joining affiliate programs. Remember that having a blog is a huge dedications, especially if you want to earn a little bit off it. Try to not think about the hours put in compared to what you earn & just look at any income as a bonus to being able to help others. Most importantly remember not to overdo your page with ads. If it’s not something that you think your readers will want to access a lot then don’t clog up your screens with it. Most of your ads should be done by posting about particular things (in my opinion at least).
